  1. Welcome to the club, Stephen. You will have plenty of fun in the Summer ---- providing not as much rain as last year! Regards, Peter.
  2. Good Morning, and welcome to the Club. There will be someone more expert than myself to tell you how to clean the EGR valve, but I do know that is something than can be done by sone good at car maintenance. I had the same problem twice with my EGR valves sticking on my s type. The first time I took it into a Jaguar Main Dealer and paid £69 to have it diagnosed. The second time I took the car out on a quiet Sunday morning and gave it a bit of faster driving. The next day the Amber light did not come on. The mobile mechanic who has serviced my car came over with his diagnostic equipment, saw that it had been the EGR valve and fixed something. Price £20. Some people do blank off the valve, but I would suggest than a clean would do the the job rather than a replacement - first. Regards, Peter.
  3. Welcome to the Club, Graig. Nice car. Regards, Peter.
  4. Welcome to the Club, Jeff. My 2.5 X type SE [manual] is now being driven somewhere by the pair of scroats who car jacked me on my drive! I am enjoying my 2.7 Auto S type SE --- I do enjoy the gentle rumble of the diesel though, as well as 42 mpg. Enjoy your car, and don't order pizza again! Regards, Peter.
  5. That's good, Lee. It happened to me in a Rover Sterling after a very slight kerbside error in a lay-by. A previously smooth ride was suddenly turned into a peculiar one. Two new tyres on the front cured it. When a car has been sitting idle for a time tyres can deteriorate. But now enjoy your car. Peter.
  6. Welcome to the Club, Bob. You will enjoy your Jaguar, there is something about them that which the Duke of Lancaster even approves! Regards, Peter [Exiled Lancastrian].
  7. Kevin, a lot depends on the car's history and its service record. I keep a file on my car, as with other cars I have owned, which contains MOT certificates, bills and receipts, and indeed anything I have ever bought for that car. A bit nit picky, I know, but is does show that the car has been looked after. Accident damage is something that only an expert can tell, but evidence of a respray can easily be found in any car. If, as Trevor says, you know a friendly mechanic, that would help, and it would well be useful to have a chat with the Jag Specialist in Doncaster for things to look out for. He might even be able to point you in the right direction. I worked in South Yorkshire for 12 years and there are a lot of friendly people there. Regards, Peter.
  8. Just to add, Kevin, there is a very well respected independent Jaguar Specialist in Doncaster who is not as expensive as the Jaguar Main Dealers. Just Google "The Jag Specialist" and you will find his location inter alia. Peter.
  9. Welcome to the club, Kevin. The XK is a lovely car. There are several XK owners in the club who will tell you their experiences. Regards, Peter.
  10. Some years ago, Stan will guess how long, but it was during the war and I was nine, I was given control of a cart pulled by a pair of horses. It was very easy to keep them moving, but a bit more difficult to stop them . The brake was a block on a large lever that you yanked towards you, and if the horses thought correctly you stopped where you wanted to. The Mark 1 Ford Escort was similar. Modern brakes are brilliant and you should give them the best treatment! Peter.
  11. Will do that, Kevin. There have been some very good reports on the product over the last couple of years. Peter.
  12. Hi Kevin, I have never been sure about Redex -- don't know why. Even though my car is running very well, I am booking it in foe a Terraclean next month. I have been told that it certainly does give the engine a very good decarbonisation. Peter.
  13. P.S. Gary, June will not be too far away --- You car will soon be leaving Spitfire Island -- the exit from the Castle Bromwich Works! Peter.
  14. Welcome to the Club, Gary. My 07 plate S Type seems very antiquated, but I still love it, and it is great to drive. Every time I go out on my own I am told not to think I am a boy racer. Regards, Peter.
  15. Welcome to the Club, Steve. I have read your post and there does seem to be some issues that, in part, will not be too difficult to solve. But first, The S type is only 15 to 20% Mondeo, the rest is absolute Jaguar from Castle Bromwich. Tyre pressures for the S Type should be displayed on the inside of the drivers door, but if they are not there they should be 31 psi all round, unless you are travelling over 100 mph. There was a topic on the forum about a wiper arm catching on the bonnet and the solution was to bend the arm slightly. Brakes/steering are something where you will need the right advice and those more expert than I will assist you with that. Regards, Peter.
  16. Sounds very good ,Kevin. Get your Jaguar Owners club Sticker on front and rear, and then enjoy your car. Peter.
  17. Brakes are very useful things to have in anything that moves. If in doubt get them dealt with --- much cheaper than the alternative. Peter.
  18. Hi Trevor, I have found that the car runs better on the fuel from the local Shell Garage. And now and then I put in half a tank of the super deluxe stuff. I have to go to London quite a bit as I am a Pension Trustee, and also sit on a Committee which meets in London. The train is much quicker and cheaper using a Railcard, but you sometimes have to suffer from the inconsiderate passenger with a mobile phone. When I was working, I bought my own mobile phone rather than take the one that I could have had with my job --- my reason -- I could switch it off when I wanted to. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Margaret, If you use you phone a lot in the car and it needs topping up Sainsburys are offering 11 p a litre off when you top up their free SIM. How long that will last for is not known. On the other hand the nearest Sainsbury's petrol station is 11 miles away and my local shell station is offering diesel at £1.349 a litre. And, Trevor Personally, I use my mobile phone in the car only when parked, and I rarely instigate a call even then. When I go on the train to London I was once sat in a seat when a bloke was constantly shouting down the 'phone all of the journey trying to sell dome sting wind vanes to general electricity. I now sit in Coach A which is the quiet zone. Regards, Peter
  20. Good morning, Tom. When I bought my s type 2.7 diesel I was aware the DPF needed regeneration periodically, particularly if you do quite a few short journeys, as I do. A helpful poster some time ago, whose advice I followed, does an hours run once a month if he has not done any long journeys. Basically the filter will regenerate if you do 30 minutes continuously at over about 35 mph when the engine has warmed up to normal temperature. What is also interesting is that the EGR valve will benefit from a bit of a blast occasionally to stop it sticking. Givng it a bit of a blast on a quiet Sunday morning is also very enjoyable. Regards, Peter.
  21. I used SatNav updates to get an updated disc for my s type and got a 2012/13 disc to replace the 2005 one that can with the car when I bought it secondhand.. I don't know if the XF is the same, however. I think the Satnav in the S Type is quite good, though not as colourful at the TomTom. Doris has got me through some complicated routes without difficulty. Regards, Peter.
  22. There is something about towing in the handbook, Margaret. I towed a caravan for 20 years with various cars, but never a Jaguar. If your model is a 2.7 Diesel, it will be a dream. Peter.
  23. It is Jaguar Indigo Blue metallic, Margaret, but when all the dust is gone from Sutton Coldfield I will try for reflections in the bonnet and the boot, too. Washing off the Saharan sand has been a major chore this last two weeks. Regards, Peter.
  24. Definitely heart, Scott. I wanted a S type being closest to the Mk2 which I wanted when I saw my friend's in 1964. But when I got rid of my Rover, my wife saw this 2.5 AWD X type in radiance red and wanted it. We got it and it was a beautiful car, but it was car jacked off my drive. I would have had another but there was nothing similar in the same condition around, but there were plenty of S types. So turning a disaster into an opportunity we got our S type, with 48 k on the clock and a new engine at 21k. A great car to drive, but so was the x type, a great looking car, but again, so was the x type. Sure they both have some Ford bits, but so do many other cars ---- and taking the best bits of technology is not a bad thing, and most automotive manufacturers do it. So go with your heart and enjoy the one you get. Peter.
  25. Just some models, Scott. Initially the first x types were AWD with 2.5 and 3 litre V6 engines, ands in 2003 a 2.1 litre V6 from wheel drive was introduced, and later two FWD diesels. Hope that helps, Scott. Peter.
