  1. Welcome to the Club, Stewart. I have a similar model to you with the same mileage on the clock, but I have not noticed that problem. The only thing I can think of is something loose such as the exhaust, or something similar. Regards, Peter.
  2. I'm pleased you got it sorted out, Graham. The local man was worth it!! Peter.
  3. Hi John, I could be accused of bias, and, if so, I would plead guilty. Having said that, I did exactly the same as you, and found that belonging to the Owners Club was a pleasant experience. Firstly, I have had a great deal of help and advice from many of the members, who will share their experiences with you to your advantage. Secondly, the Owners Club is a friendly club. There is no falling out, bad language or ridicule at lack of knowledge. There are many S Type owners, from very early models right throughout the range to the later models, and from the 2.5 litre through to the 4.2 litre. You will make friends with like minded people from all round the country and, as the Jaguar is made in what used to be Warwickshire, there are a lot of owners who are proud that their car was made locally. Regards, Peter.
  4. Welcome to the Club, John. That is a nice looking car which you will enjoy. My S type lives just up the road in Sutton Coldfield, and sometimes goes to Stratford upon Avon. Just look out for the owners club sticker on the front and rear. Regards, Peter.
  5. Not in my Waitrose, Trevor. Boots will sell them, though. You will need more than 1 flat cap up north. One for rainy weather, one for sunny weather, and one for windy weather. Regards, Peter.
  6. Welcome to the Club, June. Your problem does appear to be an electrical connection --- I won't suggest it could be damp [you have had a bit of that in the South], but a can of WD 40 in the boot is a necessary item for me. If what Trevor has suggested doesn't work, try replacing the battery in the key fob.. Batteries can be bought from the 99p shop as also Poundland. Be careful and follow the instructions in the owner's manual. Any Auto accessory shop will do it for you. Let us know how you get one. All feedback assists when similar problems occur. Regards, Peter.
  7. Welcome to the club, Peter. I hope you get your car back on the road soon. There are several good sources for Second hand parts for Jaguars, and Mick has given you a good one. Just Jags is another, and also the David Manners Group. Regards, Peter
  8. Welcome to the club, Kev. I had 17' wheels on my X type, and they looked very good. I think the size of wheels depends a lot on your personal preference and the model you have. Enjoy your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  9. Get round to that dealer now, Charlie. When my warranty was coming to an end I listed all the things I was unsure about and booked it in.
  10. Thanks, Charlie. I will look at that.
  11. Hi Stan, Have you had your battery checked? There is so much electrical technology in many cars these days, and when the battery starts to fail the least important things fail first. Regards, Peter.
  12. Go Witter, as Mick said, Martin. Best in the business. There is a Charity Car meet near Alfreton on the 18th May and a few members of the club are going. There is a topic on the Forums. Just look out for Jaguars with the Club Sticker on them. Regards, Peter.
  13. Tell me how easy they are to fit, Charles. Peter.
  14. I have had a thought, Scott. Your gearbox will have the option for a manual shift. It would be worth changing from auto to 4th gear and taking the revs up to 3000 rpm checking the speed. Then change back to auto and keep the accelerator pedal the same, noting the rpm. My theory is that the auto should go into 5th gear at 3000 revs and your speed will consequently increase. It is a sunny day and a good excuse to avoid cutting the grass. Regards, Peter.
  15. Welcome to the Club, Scott. I have a diesel, at 3000 rpm my speedo will read 100, so that will not help. My previous car was an x type 2.5 litre petrol and 3000 rev would seem a bit high. But there are a few owners of s types with the 5 speed box who will know. Regards, Peter.
  16. Welcome to the Club, Martin. You will enjoy the quiet rumble of the 2.7 diesel engine. I towed a caravan for 20 years with various cars but never a Jaguar. What I do know about tow bars on an S type is from others. 1. The S type is a great tow car. 2. Don't try to fit the tow bar yourself unless you are expert. There are plenty of mobile towbar fitters about. I would recommend you get a detachable one as it can interfere with the parking sensors. Regards, Peter.
  17. Glad it's working OK, now, Peter. And the sun's coming out too! Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the club, Carl. 2007 was a good year for Jaguars! Enjoy your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Daniel, Pages 76,77,78,& 87 in my manual tell you what to do. My s type does not have a sunroof [thank God]. The S type is a great driver's car that also treats passengers to a lot of comfort and luxury. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Graham, I have just been out and looked at the wiper arm on my car. I never seem to look at things like that, normally. The drivers side wiper arm does look a bit complicated, and expensive to replace, so I would either take great care, or, if you know someone expert with cars get them to do it. There are some good independent garages about. I use and have done for years a mobile mechanic to do all my servicing and any major repairs, but he does not want to go much further than Sutton Coldfield, generally. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Graham, I will have a look at my car tomorrow when it is light, and then have a chat with a friend who owns a car accessory shop. I will get back to you. Regards, Peter.
  22. Welcome to the club, Daniel. That is a problem! The seat on my s type moves backward when I get out of the car -- I am 5' 6" so that is OK. I think you might have to clear the settings and then reset the seat position. Have you got he owner's manual? Regards, Peter
  23. Stan is quite right. Curiously, every time my car has been to a dealers [twice] the seat settings had to be reset. They also had to be reset when the battery has been disconnected. Peter.
  24. Yes, some good cars there --- some dealers put cars on Gumtree but they must be thoroughly looked at. I have had a quick look and there are a few I would look at if there was a good service history and the stock replacements [cam chains etc] have been done. There was one which attracted me with 103k on the clock -- 2007 year -- which had done 15k a year, It was in Hockley. Regards, Peter.
  25. Welcome to the Club, Steve. Any new car, particularly one with sophisticated electronics, can have hiccups. Warranties can usually sort those issues out. In 1972 I had a company car delivered by the dealer. It had 5 dents in it, and the lights and indicators did not work, and the radial tyres as specified were all cross ply. But dealers are much better now! Enjoy your Jaguar. Regards Peter.
