Hoping some one can help it might be me being paranoid i keep thinking my s type is not engaging 6 gear its 3.0 , can some tell what i would expect to be doing at 2000 RPM in 6 gear

Had it on the m6 at 70 rev counter read 2500 in D knocked it into 5th Rev 's stayed the same conclusion not getting 6 speed,sounds expensive.

I thought about your post as I drove on the motorway today.

I was doing 70 at 2000 revs.

90 at 2500 revs [emoji6]

Hi Frank, 

When I had a x type 2.5 AWD, I used to get the same as you.

The diesel engine runs at much lower RPM.

Yes Peter I thought the same but is Jon's petrol or diesel.??

in the gear box you have solenoids which also operate with speed sensors, if these are not working correctly then this may be your problem? you need to get a garage to link up to your tcm on the auto box, and it may help narrow the issue...

I think it is petrol, Frank, but the 3.0 litre has loads of power and the revs at 70 mph are lower than smaller engines.

Thanks to all ,gearbox oil and new sump/filter fitted now does 70 mph at 2000 rpm's
