gearbox, handbrake, D.S.C. faults
The most common affliction associated with this problem is the battery being low on voltage especially if you restart the engine and the faults disappear. Your first call is to ensure you have a fully charged battery and check it with a meter, 12.8v is what you should have.

Air bag warning light showing occasionally on XK8
The airbag code 17 (one long flash, 7 short flashes with the airbag light) is an occupancy sensor fault. This is usually caused by a loose/dislodged cable under the front seats. Have you moved the passenger seat or driver's seat recently? Have a check under the seats and make sure everything is correctly connected as it should be.

Locking wheel nut cover removal ?
There is no cover on the locknut. You should have a locknut socket in the boot that will only fit one way. If the locknut is not present then you will need to find an independent who can remove them for you. The best advice you’re ever gonna get is, once removed change them for ordinary lug nuts.

Yes John, you will have no problems with going direct to the battery terminals as you don’t have the BMS either.

Help where can i find out if our 1964 Fixed Head Coupe E Type 3.8 is still on the road
That number does not show up on the government MOT website. If you have any other info on the car you may get a better response from the JDHT. I suspect that even if the JDHT can find it they will only tell you that it is still going and nothing else.

Air bag warning light showing occasionally on XK8
You need to count the flashes from start to finish, this gives you a flash code that can be translated into a specific area of the system. example, 2 flashes, short pause, 2 flashes long pause and then repeated a further 5 times gives you a code of 2-2 which relates to the drivers side bolster airbag.

The only person I can recommend is Chris Isle, The Jag Specialist at Doncaster. He is also a gearbox specialist. Worth at least a phone call.

Fuel Tank
Hi Tony, I don’t believe one was designated a reserve tank. You simply switched between the two as and when required as they were both the same size.

Hi Dean, the easiest way is to send an email to The JDHT with all the relevant info you have, they should be able to advise.

Illumination control module location
Just been through the 98MY electrical manual and there is no mention of that module. What exactly is it that you’re trying to do, or more importantly, what is the problem you have?

Fog lights no power
The relay you need is R11 in the front power distribution fuse box. It is controlled by fuse F15 15A in the same box. The ground point is behind the left hand headlamp and is worth checking also. Figure 08.1 of this manual refers. http://www.jagrepair.com/images/AutoRepairPhotos/CarPDFFiles/SType/S-Type-Electrical-2005on.pdf

BMS LIGHT ON
3 things with this one, 1. BMS needs resetting 2. Fusible wire from the positive terminal has blown 3 BMS module on the negative terminal has blown and needs replacement. I would go with #1.

XF battery reporting low voltage
100% agree with the above. Lack of use will kill your battery without the use of a maintainer. A half hour thrash is not going to help much unfortunately.
