  1. Hi Mark I don't think the numbers have to match exact there revision numbers, as they update them the letters and number go up at a guess the xw4t will be a earlier revision and the 2w4t will be a later revision of yours they usually need programing if there new, but if the car its comes off has the same spec as yours, it might work straight away try dennis on here for parts "the jag den" he might have one also have you checked the wires in the door shut, they do snap there cheers joe
  2. Hi Paul I used AWJ Jaguar but there also XJK who are also near me AWJ http://www.awjautomotive.co.uk/index.php?p=home XJK http://www.xjkltd.co.uk/ Cheers Joe
  3. Hi peter Battery is all ways a possible on the s-type, its seems to give the most problems on the s-type and generates a range of fault codes being displayed Its especially a problem on Diesels, as diesels suck so much out of the battery on startup, due to glow plug heaters and starting current being so much higher than a petrol, even though the Diesel's have the largest alternators fitted to the s-types It worth checking your battery, best time to check your battery is after its stood overnight, if its on its way out, they loose there charge more rapid and a good battery will hold for much longer, Ideally it should be over 12.5V and if its below 12v then is due for replacement, with the engine running you should at least have 14V up to 14.5V, also the s-type seems to have problems with certain faults which cause loads/leakage and cause the battery to discharge more rapidly, like a interior light left on or the flap on the ignition lock, when it sticks, it stops the car going into a sleep mode and causes various parts of the car to stay powered up, causing a excessive drain on the battery. If your handy with a multimeter, you could connect it inline with the battery and measure the current its taking, which should be quite low, not sure of exact figures as I've never had to do it with a s-type, on old cars it use to be the digital clock and the stereo memory, which would be next to nothing, but on the s-type, its every module, so its going to be a bit more, but for example if you put your meter inline and you got 0.35 Amp, 350 Milli Amps, if you have a 90Ah battery its 90/0.35=257 hours, so in 257 hours the battery would be completely flat, so 0.5A drain would be 90/.5=180 hours and 1A drain will be 90/1=90 hours, so you can see how battery drain effect the battery life, that's a new good battery, a old tired battery will be much reduced cheers Joe
  4. Hi Jon Not sure myself but I Have been looking my self at them I know early ones suffered with corrosion and early 4.0 engines had problems with nicasil bores and timing chains, but the 4.2 cured all the problems found this have a look here http://www.eapj.com/XK-R buyers guide.pdf cheers Joe
  5. Hi I did mine last year, Just for peace of mind, bought the kit off ebay, you get the oil zf lifeguard 6, sump, which is the filter, new sump pins, later pins have larger heads, mechatronics sleeve, updated as early ones were prone to leaking, there's a procedure you have to follow, which is critical, when your ready let me know and I can post it up There's a video on YouTube here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MAMseFY8GpY My kit cost me 192 pounds, but they were all genuine parts, you can get cheaper parts, but I would not recommend it on mine as it's a S-type R and the gearbox gets lots of powers through it, jaguar used genuine zf parts, so do did I. Also if you get this done at a main dealer, they reset the adaptations, which basically clears the gearbox memory, so you learn it how to drive again, it usually makes it drive better and they update the software if needed, I paid a local jaguar indy to do the reset and update, they charged me 80 pounds for it Cheers Joe
  6. Hi Yes and No, Its a emergency brake, every time you pull it, it brings the hand break on a bit, keep pulling it up, and it will bring the hand break on, to release, just press the accelerator at any time but you have to pull it, pressing it will do nothing if stationary pressing it will still do nothing, unless you press the brake pedal at the same time, if pressed with the brakes pressed, if the handbrake is on, it will release cheers Joe
  7. Hi If you getting the fault, I would say you need to look at it, its either going to be EPB assembly or one of the handbrake cables you could disconnect the EPB module in the boot, with the park brake off, which would disable the EPB, but I would not recommend this because, the park mechanism on the gearbox is not strong enough to hold the cars weight, also if you park on a slope and put it in park, the odds are it wont release because of the weight on the park mech, so then you will get a gearbox fault and get it stuck in park and lastly you will lose the park brake as a emergency brake, if you keep pulling the park brake lever up, while your driving, every time you click it up it will bring the park brake on, till it locks the rear wheels and will release if you press the accelerator at any time personally I'd get it fixed properly, like i said its either the EPB, more expensive option ( there's a epicyclic gears inside it, than run dry, not enough grease inside, then they wear and jam up regular, once worn. or it going to be the handbrake cables, they go really tight as they get old and corrode, overloading the EPB and causing it not to reach it desired position hears a link to a clip on how to operate the EPB motor manually https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xebdRYwtjE and you dont have to disconnect the battery, no other memory will be lost. I'd replace the park brake cable first as there reasonably cheap, or at least check them, they should slide nice and smooth, also check the rear brake calipers lever for the handbrake operates smoothly, normal s-types hand brake operates a lever on the main brake caliper, operating the inner pads only, if there not setup correct this can cause EPB faults, s-type R up to 2005 has two brake calipers at the rear, one solely for EPB and one for footbrake I removed my EPB when I first had the car, knowing that they can be troublesome and greased it all up and checked the cables were nice and free and mines worked faultlessly for nearly 2 years now. also if the rubber boots have perished at each end of the cables, they fill with damp and water and this time of year when its frosty, your guaranteed a " EPB FAULT", or excessive rear pad wear and if there frozen, there's no freeing them till they thaw cheers Joe
  8. Hi I'd start with wd40 and then some normal oil, as most of the wd40 evaporates If its frozen, then there's moisture in there, plenty of oil should sort it put some towel's under the mirror, they will drip oil for a bit cheers Joe
  9. Hi Saw This today and it may be a option if your thinking of upgrading your sound system cheers joe Have a look here http://veffremovve.wixsite.com/jaguar?from=%40
  10. hi assuming its the same as the s-type, there a spring on each side check them, I bet one has fell off or broken cheers Joe
  11. Hi nope as far as I'm aware they should have 14 wires, none of the mirrors have a control module in them 3 wire's is just for the mirror, no heater, no memory, no electrochromatic, no power fold cheers Joe according to wiring diagram it should have at least 7 wires, 3 for mirror, 2 for power fold and 2 for heated mirror, x-type might be different to s-type s-type have 14, the mirror has 4 wires for the mirror movement motors, 4 wires for mirror movement motor memory, 2 wires for heated mirror, 2 wires for electrochromatic dimming and lastly 2 wires for power fold, that a total of 14 wires here a wiring for x-type
  12. Hi It all depends what the original wheel and tyre sizes were, if you change the overall diameter it will effect the speedo usually if you go up a size like 18" to 19" you have to drop the profile a size if you look in your handbook or drivers door pillar area it should state tyre sizes and pressures, see what you had on originally if you google "tyre wheel calculator" there are loads of site where you can compare wheel sizes and tyre sizes, so you will see how it will effect your speedo also the lower profile you make the tyre, the choppier/rougher the ride will get cheers Joe
  13. hi then ebay your best bet the link above is a guy who shares all the info he has on the jaguar, there's lots of info, a lot of it is on the s-type, manuals and software, there's also a image of the sat nav 2012 dvd, which you can download and burn to a DL DVD. cheers Joe
  14. Hi there's usually loads on ebay, just make sure it has 14 wires if it got 14 wire it has every thing on the mirror have a look here http://www.jaguarownersclub.com/forums/topic/14680-powerfold-mirror-question/#comment-44627 cheers Joe
  15. Hi if you can get on mediafire here a link works fine on mine https://www.mediafire.com/folder/luzulsu07dpcc/jaguar and lots more s-type stuff cheers Joe
  16. Hi Phil Ctek do some good car battery chargers I have a jaguar one, its a ctek one, with a jaguar logo on it the jaguar kit comes with a socket you mount inside the boot and connect to the battery, through a fuse if you connecting direct to the battery, just make sure it still has its vent tube fitted, it a tube from the battery that goes into the tyrewell and out the back panel, when you charge batteries you get a explosive gas, it should vent out the back panel, behind the bumper, just check its still there, as some people forget to put them back if they have had the battery out. it ok to charge the battery with it still connected, make sure it a smart charger, not just a continuous charger, as it will just boil it dry cheers Joe
  17. Hi When I go out, I do the driving and my STR does the drinking!!! cheers Joe
  18. Hi Paul Is there much difference in weight between the two cheers Joe
  19. Hi So that means the bumper could also be different let us know how you go on cheers Joe
  20. hi Think it will fit, as wings and headlights are the same the bonnet has slight contour differences, metal ones, humps behind each headlight go further back, aluminium ones the humps behind the headlights are shorter and theres a raised curve that goes from the grill to the corners of the bonnet, which the steel one does not have there slightly lighter, but are more prone to corrosion, due to the reaction between steel and aluminium only way to tell is try and fit it. post some pics up as you go on cheers joe
  21. Hi Try getting someone to move the wires in the door shut area, they tend to snap wires there where the door keeps opening and closeing if nothing working, it might be a break in the 12v feed to the switch pack cheers Joe
  22. Hi I get it plugged in to see if there's any faults logged, might just need faults clearing thats where I'd start is the engine management light on cheers Joe
  23. Hi If they list them you can use them, got no experience with the XKR My S-type R had all ways had genuine Jaguar pads fitted, they worked well and had the occasional irritating brake squeal, but I ended up swapping over to EBC pads, red stuff, solely because the jaguar ones gave lots of brake dust, the EBC red stuff, you get next to none Mintex pads have been out for years and have proven braking qualities. I have a lot of parts from british car parts and can recommend them https://www.britishparts.co.uk/ just out of curiosity, what makes you ask the question cheers Joe
  24. Hi Just lately I've noticed the most dazzling cars with lights seem to be BMW's, Mercedes and Nissan's all under 3 years old the lights on them, are much blue'r and allways seem to dazzle me cheers Joe
