  1. HI There are company's out there that do them they come with a hub, that bolts on, then there converted to the spline and a wire wheel can be fitted there usually custom made and not cheap cheers Joe
  2. Hi Martin I have this on mine and i quite like it they do go off after about 15 mins, when the control unit cuts the 12v feed its because they use a switched negative on all most every thing on the car, where the bulb is fed with a permanent 12v and the negative is switched via a control unit, there is a slight leakage as you say, that stays there to monitor the bulb, to see if its healthy or not it will not do any harm, its something you don't see with a normal bulb as the resistance of a normal bulb is too low to make it glow, but the voltage is still there, but because the bulb now has a led bulb in it now, that slight voltage leakage makes it glow slightly, but like i said it does go off after about 10 to 15 mins I'm sure the "can bus error free" will do the same, "can bus error free" bulbs have a tiny chip in them that talk to the cars ecu that tell the car the bulb is healthy, our car bulb are not can bus type bulbs have a look here https://www.superbrightleds.com/blog/can-bus-led-bulbs/293/ cheers Joe
  3. hi Quentin if you have any history with it have a look through it, as a lot of classics get converted when they have engine work the valve seats need replacing, as its all ready running on unleaded the timing should of all ready been adjusted to suit found this, have a look here http://www.thevintagecar.co.uk/convertingvintagecarsunleadedpetrol.html cheers joe
  4. hi gary also have a look here http://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=74391
  5. hi Gary cant find the first code its not listed on the s-type here what i got cheers joe
  6. Hi Gary what engine is in your car cheers joe
  7. Hi Paul just out of curiosity, what ipod do you use cheers joe
  8. Hi I think this is a worth while upgrade, especially if you thinking of keeping it for a good while I have a s-type with the touch screen and premium alpine sound and would say its quite a good sound system, sound quality is very good, especially if you can drop on a audio connectivity module, which allows you to plug in a ipod, aux input and a usb flash drive and play mp3's through the touch display and through voice control. and as for the sat nav, 2012 is the newest map you can get, but its quite a good system for its age, puts some other sat nav's to shame, if you could get up to date maps, it would be a great system, once you get use to it cheers joe
  9. hi usually as long as the new one has more wires than the original, it should be ok but like paul says, if you point which pin it is, we can tell you what its for cheers Joe
  10. Hi I don't think you can go back to the old climate control panel. more than sure the wiring harness is different, its not plug and play personally I would not bother its too much hassle I bought a Geartist GB01, its a bluetooth fm transmitter, tune it in to a fm channel and pair it to you phone and you can play all your music from your phone through the car, sound quality is very good and i like it as you can use all the feature from your phone hands free, or you could go down the PARROT MKI9200 route which also a good route and much easier cheers Joe
  11. HI I would go with a coolant issue, with white smoke Turbo seals usually gets blue smoke and soon followed with excessive oil consumption are you getting it all the time, now the weather has shifted to the cold, you will get a fair amount of steam/white type smoke, while the engine is cold, if it all clears up once warm, this is normal this time of year. if its a coolant issue, you will get coolant being used, if your not using any coolant or oil use, I would not worry too much cheers Joe
  12. hi if you go on the jaguar topix site, you can register for free and it will give you the spec of your car and whether its due any recalls https://topix.jaguar.jlrext.com/topix/vehicle/lookupForm cheers joe
  13. Hi My S-type R use to do it terrible, really loud and it had genuine jaguar pads I have since changed to EBC red stuff, for 3 reasons, now they don't squeal, I get next to no brake dust and they stop better But there not the cheapest but usually with squealing brakes you just remove the pads, clean them, clean the slides and copper grease on the rear of the pad and usually stops it, but if yours has the brembo brakes then it a common issue on these, I know some people with brembo's say the only fix is to buy anti squeal shims, there use to be a guy on ebay that use to sell them, a thin stainless shim, that goes between the pad and the caliper and these are known to cure it, once and for all cheers Joe
  14. hi is it the 4wd model, does it do it at low or high rpm, or low or high speeds could still be a slightly buckled wheel have you tried swapping front wheels for back wheels cheers joe
  15. Hi Last time I looked they still listed it for the STR but when you contact them, they say they have stopped doing it, not enough demand cheers
  16. HI yes you can check speed on the net like here http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=205&aspect=55&diameter=16&wheelwidth=6.5&offset=40&width2=235&aspect2=40&wheel_size=17&wheel_width=9-5&offset2=20#isPage=1
  17. hi contacted racing green, was going to have it done, they don't do that conversion any more otherwise I would of had it done I assume the conversion is copied from the bmw's, as they use the exact same gearbox with paddle shift but saying that, the gearbox in mine is silky smooth and works really well in sport mode cheers joe
  18. HI No, none at all, Russ just think the s-types and s-type R are a very under rated car cheers Joe
  19. Hi Russ there is a massive difference between the 3.0 sport and STR Its not just the power, its the Torque the STR V8 produces, from way down in the revs , 553 Nm, 408 ft-lb of torque compared to 300 Nm on the 3.0 Thats 253 Nm more than the 3.0, the 2.5 v6 only produces 245 Nm you have to drive one to appreciate the jaguar V8, also the suspension is much stiffer on the STR some specs here for various model s-types http://www.parkers.co.uk/jaguar/s-type/saloon-1999/specs/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_S-Type just a quick comparison a Ferrari 458 coupe italia, 2016, only produces 540 Nm, 398 ft-lb out of its 562 bhp motor so 553 Nm is really good http://www.parkers.co.uk/ferrari/458/coupe-2010/italia-(hele)-2d-auto/specs/ cheers Joe
  20. hi you can alter the circumference of the wheel in one of those settings just alter it one way or the other till you get the desired effect so if your speedo is reading slow decreasing the size, which will give you a faster higher speed reading,if your speedo is reading fast increase the size which will give you slower lower speed reading, compare it to a sat nav, like a tomtom because using satelites should be more accurate speed reading. never messed with it, but it should work cheers joe
  21. HI Paul I'm sure you can change the wheel circumference in the diagnostic menus on the dash that will alter the speed displayed cheers joe
  22. Hi All Saw this and found it very good. https://gasketcase.wordpress.com/2016/10/09/the-jaguar-s-type-r-britains-unsung-hero/ Cheers Joe
  23. hi if its using oil and is not leaking, its either valve stem seals or piston rings valve stem seals will show more when you first start it, after its stood a bit, usually a bit of smoke on startup them it clears, it can show also if you coast in gear down a incline and then hit the throttle, small puff of smoke, its usually age with valve stem seals as they go hard and they pass a bit rings, will smoke on coasting and also when the engine is revved hard compression test will usually show how good the rings are and is quite easy to do next time your changing the plugs I've also known on quite a few cars for the crankcase breathers to block up, there usually on one of the cam covers, not sure on the jags would have to look, these block up, most modern cars usually have some kind of valve that slightly pressurise the system and then vent off into the induction system, so any vapors are burnt off. problem is as they get older the filter/gauze blocks up and you get much higher pressure in the crankcase, this causes the vapors to be forced past the piston rings cause smoke and excessive oil consumption cheers Joe
  24. hi that sounds like starter motor if you have a manual car you could try putting it in gear and rocking the car the starter is a pre engaged type so the solenoid on the starter engages, In then mover the starter gear into the flywheel, when the gear is engaged the starter spins by a contact that is made, when the gear has has full travel by rocking the car in gear, it will move the flywheel slightly and if it the starter not engaging right, it might cure the problem cheers joe
  25. hi still might be battery, weather getting colder and the glow plugs will be staying on longer and will be sucking that battery down I'd be tempted to charge the battery overnight and check the voltage across the battery with the engine running, should be above 14 volts, when running, just incase the alternator is on its way if you charge and its runs great for a few day, I'd replace the battery cheers joe
