What was my S Type original specification

Featured Replies

Does anybody know how to find a car's original specification please?

I've used VIN decoders but they give a bare minimum of information.

Hopefully I'd like to discover how my car was setup from manufacture.

Thanks

I used VinDecoderZ, Paul, and it gave me the exact specification as from Castle Bromwich.

You can also check any Jaguar main dealer's site and you might find the optional extras able to be fitted.

If you also google "Jaguar s type specifications"  you could well find the specification for your year.

Peter.

Try this, you have to register as an independent though but it's easy.

Pop your vin number in and you can look up build spec, also there's some useful info far fitting accessories too.

Hi Paul,

I think that sometimes dealers will do a retrofit to please a customer, which will not show up against an original build.  And sometimes a car will be classified as "a foreman's friend" and will have certain things factory fitted which do not show up on the original requirements.  Backhanders to foremen are well  known on the production line.

Regards,

Peter.

Gave you the wrong link.

Try this one.

Some of the details can be a bit sketchy but it's mainly accurate.

Alternatively give jag a call.

Here is a contact email address at Jaguar, email her and give her your VIN number and request politely the build spec for your jag.

Thanks Andy,

That was very useful.

However, amazingly, I phoned local dealer and they were happy to send me the full information by e-mail, direct from their system :)

Great links.

I didn't know this information was available :)

I found out the spec as from Castle Bromwich and a comparison again the Standard spec for a 2.7 SE showed the there was £11994 's worth of optional extras put on the car.

I surprised me how much cost there was in some of the items, such as a full size matching alloy spare wheel.

Peter.

Wow !!

That's a lot of extras :)

So what's the SDD software that's available from the TOPIX site, anyone know ??

  • Author

SDD stands for Symptom Driven Diagnostics. It runs on a variety of hardware platforms, the cheapest being a cloned Mongoose which acts as an active interface between the car and a PC.

Thanks Paul.

So it can be used with an OBD2 device ?

As many of us, I want to know the original specifications for my S-type and have followed the suggestions posted here. However, I have not had any success. Rather, my polite requests have been met with a surly telephone service rep telling me that the information could not be circulated outside of their workplace and absolutely no response to emails sent to other dealerships. Perhaps it is typical of living in London that one should expect shoddy customer care.

That stated, if anyone has any other suggestions I would welcome the same. (I've also paid one of those online VIN services but it failed to provide any information beyond the most basic.)

Hi

Go to Jaguar Topix

login in as a guest and put your vin number in

it will give you all the original spec and any recalls due

if you get stuck pm your vin and I can do it on Jaguar IDS/SDD

cheers

Joe

Joe, I have actually tried TOPIX without success beyond the basic info, e.g. Year and Model. I will pm you once I figure out how to do so! G

Hi Gary,

I got the full spec of my s type from a site called   Vindecoderx  which detailed the basic spec  plus the factory fitted options extras.  Sometimes, however it does not work.

Peter, I also tried that site. It claims (wrongly) that my VIN is for an X type with 174k miles! Thankfully Joe has helped me and it's all sorted now. Thanks to all for the advice.

Gary

It does the same with mine, x type with 174k km  and a 4.2 v8, now theres something to see a v8 x type.
