Hi all, Wanted to introuduce myself as a first time Jaguar owner. Mostly BMWs but this time round a Jaguar XF seemed the obvious choice. I've attached a picture. The XF is going and for my Birthday and start of retirement I had decided to go for something less flamboyant and lower performance as a nice little runaround.... NOT π And here she is:- Deposit paid and due for arrival mid December. I know that many things here won't apply in SoCal...but the smell of Jaguar is always sweet, even in the midst of troubles. It's not a matter of if you love it. It is a matter of what would you do without it! For me a 1999 XJR about 10 years ago and a one owner 2003 XJR (X308) now. So as owner number two I have to try harder. I have seen the assistance here and hope perhaps I may one day have something to offer also.4 points

Several members of this forum are aware of my present situation and have been asked to keep it to themselves, however, I feel that I should perhaps update anybody who is concerned. We are currently having to deal with the very real possibility that my Wife's breast cancer has returned. In addition, I have just been allowed home following somewhat major surgery. Apologies if these things got in the way of the standard of service some VERY new members appear to expect from me. OTH kindly took the trouble to hint that sometimes people are not available, thanks BTW Frank, but clearly that cut no ice with certain new members whose enthusiasm for the forum as a whole, is clearly evidenced by your singular lack of any input other than to harrangue me. As far as PMs go, one unanswered should have been sufficient. I did not need the follow up. Those who use this forum on a regular basis will be aware that I tend to try assisting where possible as fully as possible and as fast as possible, even as far as hosting people and their cars at my house free of charge and usually with lunch thrown in. I will, of course, endeavour to continue to do so as time and circumstance permit. As to the answer to certain questions of a technical nature? Well, I am still perfectly willing to assist those I can but for some reason I appear to become flustered when pressured / harangued,becoming unable to recall the required detail, unfortunately. However, I am by no means the only forum member with experience of the electronic functions of the S-Type and I fel sure they will be able to assist, approached in a reasonable manner. Please be aware that, although I am, for the moment at least, a moderator on this forum, my comments above are my own personal views and do not reflect the views of the forum admin. Therefore those who might feel offended by my candour should, if required, raise it with the admin. ...and my pair.... I've had the Sportbrake for 6 years and the X-Type for 12 months. It still has under 27k on the clock, serviced every 12 months and an interior like new. It even had the previous owners leather driving gloves in the glove box along with a bag of Werthers π It now has new sills and is fully Lanoguarded underneath. Failed 2 MOTs in its life, once for headlight aim and once for sills in 2017. Currently working on the original wheels but got some refurbed X-Triple 5 on at the moment with Goodyear Vector 3 all seasons.3 points

Hi all! I bought my first ever Jag today after dreaming of owning one since I was a kid. I bought a very tidy 2006 2.2l diesel X Type that has done 72k miles with full service history! Very excited to be apart of this community!3 points

Well.....it's fixed!! After a lengthy fuse pulling exercise and replacing back.....the XF has sorted itself. Still baffled which fuse it was because it showed no obvious spiking. However, ever since for the last 2-3 weeks it is working perfectly. Can only suspect dodgy loose fuse or connection. Still not a complete answer, but thought I'd let you guys know that if you have the same trouble, this worked a treat for me.3 points

Today I was shown around a friend's new car, of which he was justly proud, a VW Polo 6. So enthusiastic was he that he insisted I go for a ride with him to see how it performed. Some way down the A449, we came upon a Jaguar in the inside lane and he said with relish "Let's burn this thing off the road... " I said "It's a Jaguar" his reply "Those jags are overrated" I didn't bother to enquire as to the performance of his VW. In the event, nothing came of it as we hurtled past the Jaguar without any sign of it wishing to take part in a race. I noticed the jaguar had a label on the boot. It was XJR575. I can't help thinking that my young friend was just a tad optimistic ')3 points

Having switched my allegiance from SAAB to Jaguar in or around 2008, purchased my first XF (Diesel second hand ) in 2010. See below next to my last Saab which I also still have. Owned two further XFs before switching to my current 2017 XF-S supercharged petrol. Love this car and will probably hang on to it forever π . No intention of switching to EV despite test driving a Tesla S in 2019 ( ludicrous mode is exactly what it is) .2 points

If you can, find another headlamp and unplug your offside/drivers headlamp and plug the wiring into the "spare" unit. If the fault persists, it's not the headlamp, if the DRL comes up bright on the spare unit then it's the light unit. However, you may find if the spare is bright, the original might "miraculously" become bright - this points to corroded/dirty connections within the plugs.2 points

For future info, where the vehicle is fitted with an Auxiliary Battery, this feeds the electronics whilst the vehicle is operating in start / stop mode, maintaining a constant 12V supply to the sensitive electronics. If you find, over time, that the start / stop function fails to operate, it can be due to either battery beginning to fail. The main battery obviously provides the capacity to physically crank start the vehicle, whilst the Auxiliary battery provides the stable voltage. Too many restarts in a short space of time, as in crawling traffic, will drop the main battery to the point where it automatically switches off the stop / start functionality until such time as the main battery has recharged itself with engine running. Typically a main battery in a stop / start vehicle will be of the AGM style, and 5-years should be considered as the typical lifespan of the battery before replacement becomes a need. N6 JMX2 points

Had a great time at Bridgnorth Rugby club with ARC events Classic car show. Great weather and lots of different marques of cars, including those from Shropshire Jaguars Owners, who helped run the event. Exhibitor tickets sold out before the event, it was very well attended and the atmosphere was superb . As an S-Type owner, you'll be aware (I guess) of how sensitive the electronics is to low battery voltage. You'll maybe not know though, what you're expected to do after dis-connecting and re-connecting the battery. I've put together a PDF document which takes you through the procedure step by step. Nothing that isn't readily available elsewhere but just gathered together and (in my view) logically ordered into a single reference. A small word of warning on the use of the one touch fob button for roof raise and lower. Whilst it is a nice trick, the recommendation is NEVER raise or lower the roof of a convertible without the engine running. i.e. don't rely on the battery to do the work. Batteries in the X-150 have a hard life and I have always recommended that the battery be replaced at 5 years old. Many, many spurious faults arise from a poor battery and in today's world, the ability to start the car is not the best indication of its health.2 points

Hi Paul, No need to replace the blades. Pull off the pipes and try again. If you still have no water then your most likely problem will be gunge at the bottom of the washer bottle blocking the filter. You will probably end up removing the bottle to facilitate proper cleaning and it would also be prudent to blow through the pipes with compressed air, just in case.2 points

Hi, just a little into to myself, I'm James and live on the Norfolk/Cambs border. I'm a 54 y/o truck driver and I've just obtained my first XF. I've had two previous Jaguars before, the first was a 2002 3.0 X Type, the latter being a 2008 2.0D X Type. I've now just bought and collected a 2012 XF 2.2 Premium Luxury. So far I'm loving it. Sadly I missed the fact it doesn't have a reversing camera and I've noticed the DAB isn't picking up a signal. Still, it's a lovely car and colour (Claret Pearl) and I will endeavour to rectify these problems and tap you all for advise and info. Many thanks. 20240113_145220.heic2 points

Hi everyone, I've recently bought a black V6 3l AWD estate X-Type for a fairly low price. The interior looks like new. The exterior is not bad either, but the chassis is quite rusty. It comes from Switzerland so maybe the salty winter roads are to be blamed for that. I have several things to do to get it up to shape and I hope I'll find some answers in that forum π All the bests!2 points

Hi All, Delighted to be able to join you as today Iβve signed on the dotted line and purchased an XF. The Jaguar is the only car Iβve ever actually desired, and as Iβm just over 60 (I canβt believe Iβm that age) itβs now or never. Test drove it on Saturday itβs a dream, one owner, full Jaguar service history and 37k miles. Awaiting deliver later this week, really excited. I seem to have fixed it ! Replaced the memory switch on the door and immediately had the correct operation of the memory functions, but still no drivers seat forward and back movement with the engine running. At this point, I thought that I was still going to need to use SDD to diagnose and possibly have to replace the seat module. Then I thought, what if it has a stored fault code generated by the faulty memory switch ? Connected my code reader and, sure enough, B1B88 was showing. Cleared the code and all working fine since then.2 points

They're a knowledgeable lot on here, unlike many other prestige car forums the usual advice isn't "take it to your dealer", proper practial helpful advice is given that can often fix problems without (expensive) dealer intervention. Well I'm feeling chuffed with myself! Like many S owners I have experienced the dreaded headlamp droop, I managed to get a second hand pair and fitted them, but although working, I was conscious that due to their age, that they too could droop at any time, and that they are cloudy, I had been apprehensive about repairing them myself, however after trawling through the how to vids on Utube I decided to bite the bullet, I bought a set of new adjusters online and a headlamp polishing kit, totaling Β£30 put the headlamps in a pre heated oven at 80c for 20 minutes, resting on some wood to avoid any hot spots, They came apart easier than I had anticipated, I used fresh microfibre cloths to to polish the inside of the perspex, and warm breath and cloth for the silver, fitted the new adjusters, re assembled them, back in the oven for 20 minutes, bingo, all back together. I then set about polishing the lenses, with the polishing kit 800, 1000, 1500, 3000, grade, then polishing compound, and finally sealer. I must say, although not perfect for my first attempt I'm very pleased, the transformation is excellent. From removal to re installing took around 6 hours! π For some reason the left side of the bumper wouldn't let go! I have shown the car with the lights on, the right is refurbished, the left isn't the left is diffused because of the foggy lense, I hope this article gives others the courage to have ago as it save a lot of money! I'm now going to refurbish the second pair so that I have spares in case of a mishap!2 points

Hi all, just bought my first Jaguar 2 weeks ago, 07 plate S Type, it's been looked after very well, mostly Jaguar dealer stamps in the service book, A very low 76,000 miles, It's just a dream to drive. Dear Jaguar lovers, I am a new member and seeking your advice. I am about to purchase my very first Jaguar XF. Unfortunately I donβt have anyone who can advise me on what things should I check before purchase, so hoping for your knowledgeable opinion. I found what seems like a perfect car for me, 2017 portfolio XF with 2.0 diesel engine, with 47k miles on the clock. What potential issues can come up at this mileage and age? What should I check/ask the dealer for before purchase? from my online research I gathered that the display sometimes may be lagging so I will definitely check that, apart from that I found that timing belt/chain should be replaced at some point around that mileage as well as oil in the gearbox (itβs automatic) how much do these usually cost. also, how much on average do you spend on servicing your XFs? Iβm very keen to buy this car, but just want to ensure I do all checks possible for smooth driving as well trying to get better understanding how much will I need to have a side for regular maintenance. I look forward for your advice and thank you in advance2 points
