Hi all, Wanted to introuduce myself as a first time Jaguar owner. Mostly BMWs but this time round a Jaguar XF seemed the obvious choice. I've attached a picture. Very happy so far (25t r sport with a few extras) but do have a slight niggle I hope others on this forum can help me with. This is my post: Thanks and I look forward to my time on this forum

The XF is going and for my Birthday and start of retirement I had decided to go for something less flamboyant and lower performance as a nice little runaround.... NOT 😉 And here she is:- Deposit paid and due for arrival mid December. She has just about every bell and whistle on board as well 😉 For those who have less than perfect sight, the red text to the left of the "R" badge on the boot lid is:- 5...7...5 🙂

I know that many things here won't apply in SoCal...but the smell of Jaguar is always sweet, even in the midst of troubles. It's not a matter of if you love it. It is a matter of what would you do without it! For me a 1999 XJR about 10 years ago and a one owner 2003 XJR (X308) now. So as owner number two I have to try harder. I have seen the assistance here and hope perhaps I may one day have something to offer also.

Several members of this forum are aware of my present situation and have been asked to keep it to themselves, however, I feel that I should perhaps update anybody who is concerned. We are currently having to deal with the very real possibility that my Wife's breast cancer has returned. In addition, I have just been allowed home following somewhat major surgery. Apologies if these things got in the way of the standard of service some VERY new members appear to expect from me. OTH kindly took the trouble to hint that sometimes people are not available, thanks BTW Frank, but clearly that cut no ice with certain new members whose enthusiasm for the forum as a whole, is clearly evidenced by your singular lack of any input other than to harrangue me. As far as PMs go, one unanswered should have been sufficient. I did not need the follow up. Those who use this forum on a regular basis will be aware that I tend to try assisting where possible as fully as possible and as fast as possible, even as far as hosting people and their cars at my house free of charge and usually with lunch thrown in. I will, of course, endeavour to continue to do so as time and circumstance permit. As to the answer to certain questions of a technical nature? Well, I am still perfectly willing to assist those I can but for some reason I appear to become flustered when pressured / harangued,becoming unable to recall the required detail, unfortunately. However, I am by no means the only forum member with experience of the electronic functions of the S-Type and I fel sure they will be able to assist, approached in a reasonable manner. Please be aware that, although I am, for the moment at least, a moderator on this forum, my comments above are my own personal views and do not reflect the views of the forum admin. Therefore those who might feel offended by my candour should, if required, raise it with the admin. Finally, to all of those who have wished us well and offered support I would like to thank you sincerely on behalf of us both 🙂 Nil carborundum illigitimum.

If I was a religious individual I'd be on my knees saying thank you. We've now had confirmation that Marion's breast cancer has not in fact returned. We both send thanks to those who wished us well recently 🙂

Hi Mark, Thank you. Since posting I recently had one of my cars paint and interior detailed, wheels refurbed and coating added. It looks great. I do try my self to keep them looking presentable but the XJ I only bought last year really need a lot of time spent on it, which I have not had. I am really pleased with the results. I enjoy looking in the members gallery and encourage other JOC members to post photos of their Jag, I thought a thread of Front Ends would be good to see, with a little detail if you wish. Here’s my XF which I purchased in October 2023.

...and my pair.... I've had the Sportbrake for 6 years and the X-Type for 12 months. It still has under 27k on the clock, serviced every 12 months and an interior like new. It even had the previous owners leather driving gloves in the glove box along with a bag of Werthers 🙂 It now has new sills and is fully Lanoguarded underneath. Failed 2 MOTs in its life, once for headlight aim and once for sills in 2017. Currently working on the original wheels but got some refurbed X-Triple 5 on at the moment with Goodyear Vector 3 all seasons.

Nice one Ian! This is my XK8. I've only had her for about 3 months. Endless grin!!

Just replaced the wheels on my XJ with 'Bionics' from an F-Pace, got the idea from another owner & really love the outcome 🙂 I've kept the original Callisto 20" rims too just in case I decide to swap back.

Hi all! I bought my first ever Jag today after dreaming of owning one since I was a kid. I bought a very tidy 2006 2.2l diesel X Type that has done 72k miles with full service history! Very excited to be apart of this community!

Well.....it's fixed!! After a lengthy fuse pulling exercise and replacing back.....the XF has sorted itself. Still baffled which fuse it was because it showed no obvious spiking. However, ever since for the last 2-3 weeks it is working perfectly. Can only suspect dodgy loose fuse or connection. Still not a complete answer, but thought I'd let you guys know that if you have the same trouble, this worked a treat for me.

Just like to say hello from North Lincolnshire. I've recently become an owner of a beautiful 2015 Jaguar Xf. It's a car that I've coveted since their introduction and have now realised an ambition of owning one. Today I was shown around a friend's new car, of which he was justly proud, a VW Polo 6. So enthusiastic was he that he insisted I go for a ride with him to see how it performed. Some way down the A449, we came upon a Jaguar in the inside lane and he said with relish "Let's burn this thing off the road... " I said "It's a Jaguar" his reply "Those jags are overrated" I didn't bother to enquire as to the performance of his VW. In the event, nothing came of it as we hurtled past the Jaguar without any sign of it wishing to take part in a race. I noticed the jaguar had a label on the boot. It was XJR575. I can't help thinking that my young friend was just a tad optimistic ')

Lenses crystal clear thank you. The lenses were milky when I bought the car so it was one of the first jobs to do. Followed by an Ebay kit to give me DRL lights hidden in the front indicators. Realistically, I don't see the beam pattern throwing any further; things on the road and verge are just much better lit. For some illogical reason I couldn't stick the mixture of LED and halogen main beam lighting so treated the car to main beam LEDs. It feels spectacular now.

Having switched my allegiance from SAAB to Jaguar in or around 2008, purchased my first XF (Diesel second hand ) in 2010. See below next to my last Saab which I also still have. Owned two further XFs before switching to my current 2017 XF-S supercharged petrol. Love this car and will probably hang on to it forever 😜 . No intention of switching to EV despite test driving a Tesla S in 2019 ( ludicrous mode is exactly what it is) .

did you scan it for errors? these are not easy to diagnose, might as simple as wiring, but difficult to track where exactly

There is a another post from the same chap (Steve) in the New Owners section where the car he is looking at is a "low" miles (28,000) 2009 facelift X-150 with a sketchy service history and these 2 x faults showing - from a private seller, meaning nil warranty. Asking price is £16.5k and whilst the Pedestrian System can be the front sensors, my experience is that the explosive cartridges are the most common fault - they need not have deployed (making the bonnet unable to close) but they do have age related deficiency's that requires them to be replaced. For that price and poor presentation / service record, I would walk away, there are plenty good examples available with more protection. N6 JMX

Hello, fellow Jaguar enthusiasts, I'm John Kattenhorn, and I'm excited to finally be joining this community. I've been promising myself to get more involved since January! My recent journey with Jaguar began in 2021. My wife and I have always had a passion for unique vehicles, which led us to acquire two Jaguars - an I-Pace for our company and an F-Type R as a retirement gift. The F-Type was particularly special as a substitute for our motorcycle adventures, which my wife was enjoying less. I mostly did the longer rides to spend time with her. 🙂 The F-Type R has been our faithful companion, especially during the summer months. It has significantly reshaped our travel preferences. Since COVID-19, we've found joy in exploring Europe's scenic routes in the F-Type, favoring it over flying. We are pretty excited to be awaiting the arrival of our new F-Pace SVR next Tuesday. It's set to replace our I-Pace as our daily driver. We've had only one issue with the I-Pace's charging flap, but aside from that, it's been flawless. I'll be sad to see it go. Surprisingly, I find myself feeling nostalgic about the Jaguars we are losing as the brand progresses through its transformation. I'm here to contribute to the community, share experiences, and learn. Looking forward to an engaging and enriching experience here. Best regards, John

Being a law obiding individual I took Charlie to the vets this week to get him "chipped". Very disappointed with the outcome though. No faster and certainly no better economy. (Charlie, by the way, is a half bred Bengal)

Hi Paul, No need to replace the blades. Pull off the pipes and try again. If you still have no water then your most likely problem will be gunge at the bottom of the washer bottle blocking the filter. You will probably end up removing the bottle to facilitate proper cleaning and it would also be prudent to blow through the pipes with compressed air, just in case.

Hi Dave In answer to your first point I agree, that is what I said 🙂 , I woould never use it if my destination was an Airport car park! However proponents would argue that is why the cars use AGM batteries that are designed for repeated deep discharge (I don't see myself approaching the expected service specification of over 300000 starts in the next five years). On the second point, again I sort of agree. However, as I said on wear and tear, this is accounted for by the design to minimse wear. Hi All, Delighted to be able to join you as today I’ve signed on the dotted line and purchased an XF. The Jaguar is the only car I’ve ever actually desired, and as I’m just over 60 (I can’t believe I’m that age) it’s now or never. Test drove it on Saturday it’s a dream, one owner, full Jaguar service history and 37k miles. Awaiting deliver later this week, really excited. Look forward to help and advice from all of you in the “Prowl” which is one of the collective nouns for a group of Jaguars 🐆 the other two being “Leap” or “Parade” Catch up soon, Norfolk Ian 🐾

For sale - Trigger`s antique broom? 1st reg Feb 2009 this car shows mileage of 198,000 but ...... A replacement Short Engine has only done 75,000. Coolant Rail, Aux Drive Belt, Water Pump, Radiator Fan A/C Condensor and Supercharger Nose Cone have done 35,000. Both Fuel Pumps have done 29,000. The Alternator has done 28,000. All engine Timing Chains and Fuel Pump Camshaft have done have done 25,000 and both Fuel Injector Rails have only done 8,000. The XKR 5ltr is a phenomenal car and this is a great opportunity to get one you can trust. I`ll be fully open about it`s history and also about what it might need next. I`m open to offers around £9,000 to £10,000

Probably but 2016 is only a year behind 2015 in terms of ageing and fading. Why not just revive your existing headlamps using T-Cut or one of the headlamp renovation kits available online? Would be cheper and much less grief in the long run and you won't need to come back next year and ask if 2017 headlamps will fit a 2015 car and so on. 😉 😄

Dear Jaguar lovers, I am a new member and seeking your advice. I am about to purchase my very first Jaguar XF. Unfortunately I don’t have anyone who can advise me on what things should I check before purchase, so hoping for your knowledgeable opinion. I found what seems like a perfect car for me, 2017 portfolio XF with 2.0 diesel engine, with 47k miles on the clock. What potential issues can come up at this mileage and age? What should I check/ask the dealer for before purchase? from my online research I gathered that the display sometimes may be lagging so I will definitely check that, apart from that I found that timing belt/chain should be replaced at some point around that mileage as well as oil in the gearbox (it’s automatic) how much do these usually cost. also, how much on average do you spend on servicing your XFs? I’m very keen to buy this car, but just want to ensure I do all checks possible for smooth driving as well trying to get better understanding how much will I need to have a side for regular maintenance. I look forward for your advice and thank you in advance

Hi Sofia, I bought a 2017 XF-S last year, my second XF (first was a 2011). Only problem so far is glow-plugs not working (cold weather only!), not sure if it's the plugs or the controller, but I need to get it seen to before next winter! BTW, I'm an Essex boi too, from Tilbury, now living in Sussex, where you at? Good luck with your XF - they're great! J

If you have only just had this delivered, Id get straight back to the dealer with it.

I had the same problem. Disconnecting the battery is a temporary solution. To fix it for good, you need to access the CJB (Central Junction Box) in the rear trunk. It is located on the right hand side of the trunk. You must remove the fabric liner. Once you have access to the CJB (box right above the battery with the 3 big relays), disconnect the positive from the battery. There are two connectors close to the floor (lower portion of the CJB). One is brown and one is purple. The problem is with the brown one. Since you are there, fix both of them! Disconnect them. Wwhen disconnecting the purple one, the parking lights will turn on (this is ok). Rub your finger on the connectors, you will feel moisture. Use a hair dryer or a heat gun and dry them. You will see some corrosion on the pins (CJB). I used a file to remove the corrosion. I also used a tiny screwdriver (used to fix watches) to scrape the female pins inside the connectors. Once completed, plug them back and reconnect the battery. Try the hazards by pressing the console button. If not working properly, repeat the file and tiny screwdriver steps. Once everything is ok, disconnect the two connectors (brown and purple) and add dielectric grease to the connectors. Plug them back and you should be good to go!

My current LED bulbs are 6000K Russ as they are very close to natural daylight in colour temperature. Makes night driving much more relaxing and less eye strain. I'll certainly go for the same again! As you say, the ones with the blue tinge don't really look that good, on a Jag or anywhere else come to that! 😮 I find the 3000K or halogen colour temperature lacking in many areas, particularly during rain and dusk with all lights. One benefit of the LED bulbs, certainly with 6000K is that they tend to make animals eyes reflect light back so if there's a deer/rabbit/fox on the verge of the rural road you're traceling along, you actually get to see them so you can avoid them.

Have you got a link to the ebay DRL kit please? Might be an interesting upgrade, i made my own using switchback combined DRL/indicators LED bulbs for my 827 Sterling, quite a game as the indicator lamp units have a removable orange lens inside so had to strip and rebuild them. Hmmmm, i really want to get a longer beam as well as actually having illumination of the road in front. I know on both my Volvo 760 and Rover 827, the beam distance improved with H4 LED bulbs so i was kind of hoping the beam distance would improve on the S Type too. On the Volvo, because the reflectors were tarnished (they are 35 years old this year so are allowed to be! 😛 ) they wouldn't actually give a definite beam pattern on filament bulbs, it was only just good enough to get a pass on the MoT but the tester muttered about poor beam pattern, not likely to pass next year (that was 7 years ago and had LEDs in since) but the Rover had new headlights and both gave an improvement on beam length. Because of my experience with both cars and doing the outer beams (dipped and main combined on the H4) both got inner beam improvements too, the Rover got some el-cheapo "Chinabay" H3 LEDs that used COB LEDs instead of the better Lumiled type used on the H4 jobbies. This resulted in no beam pattern at all on the inner beams but because they were so bright (something like 10000Lm if memory serves, might be 6000Lm per H3 LED bulb) switching to main beam is like turning the sun on. The Volvo got 35W HID conversions for the driving and fog lights, both inboard of the outer combined dipped/main beam lights. As it's a 1988 car the MoT testers pass it anyway because it gives all correct beam patterns. Not had a problem with the Rover either but that was before they changed the law and i changed MoT stations thanks to the previous one bodging a repair on the Rover and making it unsafe to test, never mind drive! For now in my S Type i have some cheapy ebay "Xenon look" halogens that work well - normally! Although a vast improvement on the original (nearly black so probably original to the car) bulbs, still not great especially at dusk. Having been used to LEDs for so long on my other cars as soon as i get the Jag in for MoT (and hopefully through it too) i'll be getting some LED H7 and also HB3 bulbs for it.
