  1. Hi all, Wanted to introuduce myself as a first time Jaguar owner. Mostly BMWs but this time round a Jaguar XF seemed the obvious choice. I've attached a picture. 4. The XF is going and for my Birthday and start of retirement I had decided to go for something less flamboyant and lower performance as a nice little runaround.... NOT ๐Ÿ˜‰ And here she is:- Deposit paid and due for arrival mid December. She has just about every bell and whistle on board as well ๐Ÿ˜‰ For those who have less than perfect sight, the red text to the left of the "R" badge on the boot lid is:- 5...7...5 ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I know that many things here won't apply in SoCal...but the smell of Jaguar is always sweet, even in the midst of troubles. It's not a matter of if you love it. It is a matter of what would you do without it! For me a 1999 XJR about 10 years ago and a one owner 2003 XJR (X308) now. So as owner number two I have to try harder. I have seen the assistance here and hope perhaps I may one day have something to offer also.

  6. Several members of this forum are aware of my present situation and have been asked to keep it to themselves, however, I feel that I should perhaps update anybody who is concerned. We are currently having to deal with the very real possibility that my Wife's breast cancer has returned. In addition, I have just been allowed home following somewhat major surgery. Apologies if these things got in the way of the standard of service some VERY new members appear to expect from me. OTH kindly took the trouble to hint that sometimes people are not available, thanks BTW Frank, but clearly that cut no ice with certain new members whose enthusiasm for the forum as a whole, is clearly evidenced by your singular lack of any input other than to harrangue me. As far as PMs go, one unanswered should have been sufficient. I did not need the follow up. Those who use this forum on a regular basis will be aware that I tend to try assisting where possible as fully as possible and as fast as possible, even as far as hosting people and their cars at my house free of charge and usually with lunch thrown in. I will, of course, endeavour to continue to do so as time and circumstance permit. As to the answer to certain questions of a technical nature? Well, I am still perfectly willing to assist those I can but for some reason I appear to become flustered when pressured / harangued, becoming unable to recall the required detail, unfortunately. However, I am by no means the only forum member with experience of the electronic functions of the S-Type and I fel sure they will be able to assist, approached in a reasonable manner. Please be aware that, although I am, for the moment at least, a moderator on this forum, my comments above are my own personal views and do not reflect the views of the forum admin. Therefore those who might feel offended by my candour should, if required, raise it with the admin. Finally, to all of those who have wished us well and offered support I would like to thank you sincerely on behalf of us both ๐Ÿ™‚ Nil carborundum illigitimum.

  8. Hi Mark, Thank you. Since posting I recently had one of my cars paint and interior detailed, wheels refurbed and coating added. It looks great. I do try my self to keep them looking presentable but the XJ I only bought last year really need a lot of time spent on it, which I have not had. I am really pleased with the results. Best Regards, Julie.

  11. ...and my pair.... I've had the Sportbrake for 6 years and the X-Type for 12 months. It still has under 27k on the clock, serviced every 12 months and an interior like new. It even had the previous owners leather driving gloves in the glove box along with a bag of Werthers ๐Ÿ™‚ It now has new sills and is fully Lanoguarded underneath. Failed 2 MOTs in its life, once for headlight aim and once for sills in 2017. Currently working on the original wheels but got some refurbed X-Triple 5 on at the moment with Goodyear Vector 3 all seasons.

  14. As an S-Type owner, you'll be aware (I guess) of how sensitive the electronics is to low battery voltage. You'll maybe not know though, what you're expected to do after dis-connecting and re-connecting the battery. I've put together a PDF document which takes you through the procedure step by step. Nothing that isn't readily available elsewhere but just gathered together and (in my view) logically ordered into a single reference. It also includes how to get the audio system working when you don't have the security code I've been asked for it so many times that I though I'd make a thread just for access to that document so here it is:- Battery reset.pdf

Iโ€™m looking forward to browsing the forums and hopefully being able to sort out the few very minor niggles with what Iโ€™m sure is going to be a great car. 21. Hi all! I bought my first ever Jag today after dreaming of owning one since I was a kid. I bought a very tidy 2006 2.2l diesel X Type that has done 72k miles with full service history! Very excited to be apart of this community!

  22. Well.....it's fixed!! After a lengthy fuse pulling exercise and replacing back.....the XF has sorted itself. Still baffled which fuse it was because it showed no obvious spiking. However, ever since for the last 2-3 weeks it is working perfectly. Can only suspect dodgy loose fuse or connection. Still not a complete answer, but thought I'd let you guys know that if you have the same trouble, this worked a treat for me.

  26. Today I was shown around a friend's new car, of which he was justly proud, a VW Polo 6. So enthusiastic was he that he insisted I go for a ride with him to see how it performed. Some way down the A449, we came upon a Jaguar in the inside lane and he said with relish "Let's burn this thing off the road... " I said "It's a Jaguar" his reply "Those jags are overrated" I didn't bother to enquire as to the performance of his VW. In the event, nothing came of it as we hurtled past the Jaguar without any sign of it wishing to take part in a race. I noticed the jaguar had a label on the boot. It was XJR575. I can't help thinking that my young friend was just a tad optimistic ')

  28. Lenses crystal clear thank you. The lenses were milky when I bought the car so it was one of the first jobs to do. Followed by an Ebay kit to give me DRL lights hidden in the front indicators. Realistically, I don't see the beam pattern throwing any further; things on the road and verge are just much better lit. For some illogical reason I couldn't stick the mixture of LED and halogen main beam lighting so treated the car to main beam LEDs. It feels spectacular now.

  29. I had a 2009 auto diesel estate. Bought with 90k miles on it sold with 140k on it. very few problems but like all cars you need to look after it. always use premium fuel, change oil and filter at approx 9k and take it for a good run about once a month. find a good independent garage that has a good reputation. I had to part with it due to health issues and having to surrender my licence, cheers Rod

  30. I would say if it fits your criteria for your next car then yes. They always seem to get good reviews, even from those reviewers that are somewhat scathing about British cars. All depends exactly what you want but you shouldn't go too far wrong. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜„

  31. I feel that I have been lucky with my ownership of a 2.7 S Type 2007 auto since 2009 when it was 2 years old. My visits to this forum for advice re car troubles has become more regular over the last 3 years and I have now arrived at the junction where a decision has to be made. I have spent over ยฃ1200 on my S Type 2.7 over the last 2 years and have MOT advisories for next year that would mean a few hundred more. It is time to part company. I simply don't like the XF or XE as much as the S Type and as it was the looks and driveability of my S Type that brought me to Jaguar in the first place, I have therefore reluctantly decided to move away from Jaguar altogether for my next vehicle. I am very thankful to all members who have contributed towards my online ramblings whilst trying to keep my S Type running. The membership of this club has been very helpful. These forums almost always have the answer if you search long enough. I wish everyone continued good motoring

  32. SOLD 2005 (Facelift model) JAGUAR S-Type SPORT. 2.5 V6 Petrol. First Registered: 09.09.2025. Purchased this extremely good looking and well presented car April 2021 at 60,00 miles. It has now completed 67,000 miles. Since my ownership it has been service annually (approx. 4000 miles per year.) On purchase the car was supplied with a good service history record, was re MOT`d, at my request and was subjected to Gear box Service (Oil and Filter) and NEW 95 Amp/Hr Battery fitted. Is fitted with CTEK monitor and quick plug in adapter in the boot area, (this saves having to connect each time to the battery see photos) . The car is now on a personal registration plate, which will be sold with the car. The model, being a Champagne Metallic Colour (Paint Code MDZ) and a SPORT model, is a somewhat rare car. SPORT model defines that there is no wood veneer on the interior and is fitted with Carbon Fibre type finish panels, along with Two Tone Grey Leather seating and panelling. I would not attempt to suggest that the car is โ€œPristineโ€, but it is however in extremely good, eye catching condition, with a few very small blemishes form stone chips etc, etc. These are not distracting from the overall condition and presentation of the car. The car drives and rides beautifully smooth and everything of original fitment to the car works as it should do. All Electric Windows, Navigation, CD and Six Stack Player, Air Conditioning, Stereo Radio, Alloy Wheels etc., etc. All original Jaguar Documentation is with the car. There is a fully detailed (and invoices) service/repair history supplied which has been collated by myself, since owning the car. Details listed below: April 2021 Car Purchased with new MOT and Gearbox Service (requested by myself as part of the deal) 08.05.2021. Changed to Personal Registration Number. 14.07.2021. All undertaken as per invoice No: 18986 ยฃ429.20 18.09.2021. 62878 mls. Upstream and Downstream lambda Sensors replaced Bank 1. (Denso OE Parts) 04.10.2021. 62994 mls. (Sill replaced as detailed further on.). O/S sill reported as needing replacing soon. 13.04.2022. 65282 mls. Two New Front Tyres fitted and Steering Geometry reset. Pirelli Zero GT 245/40 ZR 18 97Y. 09.05.2022. 65789 mls. Removed plastic sill covers, N/S sill welded small hole, O/S sill removed and New Sill weld fitted. 33. Hi everyone. I'm here with a view to selling my father's XF. He's 87 and his Jag has mainly sat in his garage for the last 12 years. He was happy just owning it for the most part! He's now deaf as a post and never drives it at all, so I'm selling it on his behalf. It is, as you would expect, absolutely immaculate. Anyone who may be interested, feel free to email me initially. [email protected].

  34. Here you can see the system before installation and once fitted to the car. It's very difficult for me to get in position to take the photo so this is as close as I could get. I doubt that anybody not conversant with our cars could tell that it isn't OEM. The camera itself works well with all the usual functions and is controlled via an app on your phone.

  36. I had similar issue on my 2017 F-Pace last week, dealer got me 80% from JLR. I called them and argued then demanded to speak to a manager and he came back and said they will pay 100%, the diagnostic was also covered in this. I quoted consumer rights act of 2015, sold faulty goods and told them they have 1 opportunity to repair or replace and must do so without cost to me, in a reasonable time-frame and with out causing un-necessary inconvenience. They offered a hire car if the dealer did not have a loan car. I should get my car back next tues with brand new turbo, engine and DPF fitted.

  37. Lower the window by 11". Remove the door card and sticky foam, cut thru the flexible glue. Loosen the two window clamp bolts and remove the glass, always use a suction cup to hold the glass. Remove the speaker box then disconnect the connectors from the door lock and window motor - access the window connector via the port in the door. Unbolt and remove the window slider frame. I have removed the window motor and gearbox but it is not strictly needed, using T25 remove the DC motor and worm drive. Clean the shaft and apply a mid to heavy grease. The light oil used by Jaguar dries and there is metal contact, greatly slowing the DC motor. With that done replace, paying attention to the brush contacts. Re assembly is a reverse of the procedure. With the glass now in keep the window bolts loose and close the window fully, now tighten the glass clamps. Result: one rejuvenated window motor.

  42. My current LED bulbs are 6000K Russ as they are very close to natural daylight in colour temperature. Makes night driving much more relaxing and less eye strain. I'll certainly go for the same again! As you say, the ones with the blue tinge don't really look that good, on a Jag or anywhere else come to that! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I find the 3000K or halogen colour temperature lacking in many areas, particularly during rain and dusk with all lights. One benefit of the LED bulbs, certainly with 6000K is that they tend to make animals eyes reflect light back so if there's a deer/rabbit/fox on the verge of the rural road you're traceling along, you actually get to see them so you can avoid them.

  43. 1. Air intake has engine breather tube. 2. Gases from engine contain vapours from combustion. 3. This condenses inside the inlet manifold creating an oily liquid, over time it accumulates enough to pass the gasket. Place your hand underneath the back of the inlet manifold, if it's wet with 'oil' there's the problem. Ideally set up a catch tank to contain this before it enters the inlet manifold, they are cheap enough. This is mine on the 2.5v6 (which is easier to do).

No hidden agenda just want to save someone a little money if there's is in need of replacing. I know how expensive they are, I replaced it for a lighter weight exhaust. I had it checked with a camera inside for damage and it is in good order. I don't know if I can put my email but it is the best way to contact me. [email protected]

  48. Hi Carl, I had a problem with the Key on my s type. I had an examination a few days ago with and the issue about the performance was sorted out. Then the keys started to fail and a new battery was needed and fitted but still the car was getting lower performance notwithstanding the new battery. I know a very small but extremely good local business so I went to their 3 man office. They felt that the Key was a failure even thought it was starting the engine just opened by hand, The leading engineer told be that there was nothing at all wrong with the engine but the key was a 100% wrong. I came away with 2 keys that were very different but vert good and the engine was as smooth as ever. If you ever need a new key for your Jaguar look up DUPLICUT VEHICLE LOCKSMITHS [0121 354 1499] - unfortunately for you as they are in Sutton Coldfield. Regards, Peter.

  49. Hi folks, I thought I would post on replacing the fuel filter on my 2013 XF, 2.2d Prem. Lux as I had an issue that some may have also experienced. I looked online before changing the filter and didn't see many clear posts on this so here I go. 1. I placed rags under the filter so to catch any fuel that would escape. I also opened the filler cap. 2. I removed the 3 screws retaining the filter. (always good to have a magnetic tool available in case any screws drop as did in my case. ๐Ÿคจ). 3. Push in the tabs and remove the 4 hoses. Quite easy to do. Maybe a good idea to take a pic on your phone in case of any issues when refitting. On saying this they should be colour coded. 4. Lift up the filter and remove the 4 pin plug underneath. 5. Check the new filter matches the old one. Now here is when I had a problem. As I stated previously I couldn't find precise help online on if the filter needed primed or not so I refitted as is and after the car would not start. I ran down the battery trying. So back to the filter. 6. As the battery was charging I once again removed the filter following the steps above but this time I used the appropriate Allen key to u screw the raised port on the filter and then I pulled the whole thing out. 7. I then placed a finger underneath to prevent the fuel leaking out and I filled the filter with deisel. I then screwed the plunger back in, for the want of a better descriptive word and tightened with the Allen key. 8. I once again refitted the filter, remembering to plug the tab in underneath and also the tab above and the car started on the first attempt and has run smoothly since. I just wanted to list this as there may be a few of you out there in the same position and wanting to save some hard earned cash by completing a service yourself. Just a piece of advice is to purchase a Jag/LR diagnostic handheld as this will allow you to complete the oil, EPB reset etc. Really does save money. I hope a few of you find this helpful.
